Joseph LeConte collection, 1890-1911.

The collection consists of a copy of Henry William Herbert's "Frank Forester's Sporting Scences and Characters," inscribed on the fly leaf "To Willie LeConte from Sid [Sidney Lanier]." Two v. in one. 1857. The back cover and spine are missing, and the bottoms of most of the pages are torn away. There is also 1 set of apothecary's scales and weights that once belonged to Joseph LeConte, and 1 scrapbook of obituaries and other clippings.

Joseph LeConte, born in 1823, graduated from the University of Georgia in 1841. He enrolled in the College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1844 and received an M.D. in 1845. He married Elizabeth Caroline Nisbet in 1847 and established a medical practice in Macon.
